Summary 

Les données contiennent les valeurs de la perte du couvert forestier en hectares, dans les régions du Maroc et les pays de l'Afrique du Nord.

Le jeu de données sur la perte de couverture forestière est le fruit d'une collaboration entre l'université du Maryland, Google, l'USGS et la NASA. Il utilise des images satellite Landsat pour cartographier la perte annuelle de couverture forestière à une résolution de 30 × 30 mètres.
Les données sont disponibles pour un intervalle de 2001 – 2019. On a choisi de représenter le cumul de 2015-2019.

Description 

Les forêts africaines, représentent près de 30 % du total mondial et constituent une source importante de revenus locaux. Les produits forestiers tels que les grumes génèrent en moyenne 6 % du PIB de la région, soit trois fois la moyenne mondiale. Les taux de déforestation en Afrique restent bien inférieurs à ceux de l'Asie du Sud-Est et de l'Amérique du Sud. Cependant, depuis 2000, le continent a perdu une superficie de forêt approximativement équivalente à la taille de l'Islande.
